Underlying Issues and the Importance of Discovery Calls
Anytime I begin working with a new client, I always begin with a discovery call. This one-on-one meeting allows me to understand a client’s goals and specific challenges.
The truth is that, more often than not, underlying issues are what’s affecting a client’s ability to reach their desired goals. Take, for example, the desire to lose weight. Weight loss is not just about eating right and working out. Of course, that helps; but weight loss is often affected by one’s digestive system and the ability to convert food into energy (metabolism).
Here’s an example: Say you have low energy and are inspired to eat some of your go-to foods (or sugary-filled snacks). That can cause you to over consume your daily calorie intake thus leading to weight gain.
What if low-energy, however, is resulting from a digestive system that is not working optimally? How can we get to the bottom of the real issue?
Let me tell you about my experience working with Client A [not their real name]. During our discovery meeting, I learned that A had been taking laxative powder daily to encourage normal bowel movements. There are many off-the-shelf products that can help in this regard, but over time they can reduce your large intestine's natural activity and create dependencies.
These dependencies can lead to:
Gas
Bloating
Cramping
